Murray-Darling Basin suffers another setback

The State of Victoria has already voiced its opposition to the Murray-Darling Basin plan. Now there is dissent within the government’s own ranks.

The proposed Commonwealth takeover of the Murray-Darling Basin, which is the key to the A$10 billion water initiative announced at the beginning of this year, is yet again at the centre of controversy. Critical to its success is the relinquishing, by the states, of the power and control over the Murray-Darling Basin which they currently enjoy.
