* China’s Shaanxi Province will invest RMB12 billion (USD96 million) in a diversion project to transfer 1.5 million m3 of water a year from the Han River to the Wei River.

The scheme will help alleviate water shortages in the Kuan-chung region, and supply approximately 14 million people. The volume in question is equivalent to 80% of the region’s current urban and industrial water consumption. The project is scheduled to start in October 2009 and be completed in 2015.
