* Private sector water firms operating in the Portuguese market have accused the government of giving privileged access to EU funding to publicly-owned Aguas de Portugal (AdP).

Only firms operating both high- and low-level supply networks can access European Commission funds allocated for the government’s strategic water supply and wastewater plan, discriminating against many private sector companies, said João Levy, president of the industry association AEPSA. AEPSA has lodged a formal complaint with the Commission.
