Cave charts the path for competition

Professor Martin Cave’s interim report claims that retail competition for business customers could generate benefits of £600 million over the next 30 years. It is more reticent on the benefits of upstream competition.

The government’s reaction to Professor Martin Cave’s interim review on competition and innovation in the water sector was swift and succinct. Less than a week after its publication on 18 November, the UK pre-Budget report endorsed the adoption of four of Cave’s five recommendations, and indicated that it is “strongly minded” to adopt the fifth.
