The water industry currently accounts for less than 1% of total UK greenhouse gas emissions, though this is set to rise.
The chart opposite shows that in 2005/06, around 56% of the UK water industry’s GHG emissions came from wastewater treatment, 39% from clean water supply and treatment, and 5% from administrative and transport operations.
