* Algeria’s AEC has opened bids for four projects with a total capacity of 850,000m3/d, with Hyflux, Befesa, Biwater, and a team of Inima and aqualia in the low bidder positions.
The Hyflux low bid for Mactaa was jaw-dropping. It came in at .55/m3 – a new record low for desalination if you take into account currency fluctations. At 500,000m3/d, it will be the biggest membrane desalination plant in the world (see story p9).
