This month’s chart shows the frightening rate at which the engineering, procurement and construction costs of large thermal desalination plants have been rising.
You could say that they have doubled in five years. If you consider the fact that around three quarters of the operating cost of a large multi-stage flash plant is the cost of energy (both electrical and thermal), then one might guess that the total water cost from the P1 Station might have worked out at around USD2.50/m3 ...
