Italy’s new national water champion

The three-way merger between Enìa, Hera and Iride will create Italy’s second largest water supplier. The withdrawal of Acea from the merger talks could provide Suez with a chance to boost its stake.

Italian utilities Enìa, Hera and Iride signed a letter of intent on 26 May to merge into a single company with a market capitalisation of more than €5 billion. The new company will serve around six million customers across several Italian regions, and will be Italy’s second largest water operator by volume, supplying 450 million m3 annually.
