* Saudi Arabia’s Water and Electricity Company opened bids for the mammoth Ras Azzour power and water plant at the end of June (see story p8).

The apparent low bidder was a Sumitomo consortium looking to meet the 1,000,000m3/d water requirement through 750,000m3/d of multi- stage flash and 250,000m3/d of reverse osmosis capacity.
