Tariff hikes check Spanish water consumption

Tariff rises helped drive a significant reduction in Spain’s domestic water consumption in 2006, according to new data. There is still room for improvement.

New figures show that significantly higher prices in most regions brought about a 3.6% reduction in Spain’s domestic water consumption overall in 2006.

This confirms the change of trend first noted in the previous year, which followed a sustained period of rising water use by consumers.
