Tubli WWTP win to be ‘platform’ for Bluewater Bio
Published 9th June 2011
British wastewater treatment specialist Bluewater Bio has won a $20 million contract to expand and upgrade the largest WWTP in Bahrain – and the company says the win puts it in prime place for an investment drive later this year.
Under a contract with the Ministry of Works, Bluewater will install its biological treatment technology at the overworked plant, allowing it to operate effectively at a capacity of 300,000m³/d, 50% more than its original design.
Bluewater CEO Daniel Ishag told GWI the Tubli win, along with the recent announcement of its first contract in South Africa, would be a platform for more international growth. He named Saudi Arabia, Qatar and China as key target markets.
He added the company would be making a new bid for investment before the end of the year. Aqua Resources Fund has injected £3.8 million of fresh equity into BBI over the past two years, building up its stake in the company to 17%.
