Gelsenwasser exits French water market

Despite some impressive contract wins, Nantaise des Eaux struggled to turn a profit under German ownership. How will it fare as part of Suez Environnement?

Gelsenwasser finally ceded its French arm Nantaise des Eaux Services (NES) to Suez Environnement at the end of April, bringing to an end a troubled eight-year period of ownership.

 
Back in 2007, when Gelsenwasser first took an equity interest in NES, the German company made headlines as the first non-domestic operator to break into the French delegated water services market.
