The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is preparing a €40 million package of sovereign-guaranteed loans aimed at rehabilitating the water sector in Belarus.

The chief goal of the programme, which will be co-financed by up to €20 million of grant funding from international donors, is to reduce pollution in the Baltic Sea. The first three loans are planned for the municipalities of Polotsk, Orsha, and Lida.
