EPA data exposes weaknesses in municipal compliance

Nearly two thirds of major municipal wastewater facilities in the US are recorded as noncompliant by the EPA. The core data masks some important nuances.

A new analysis undertaken by GWI of the US Environmental Protection Agency’s online compliance and enforcement dataset shows that 65% of the 4,534 major municipal wastewater facilities in the US are recorded as non-compliant.
