Hitachi looks to double overseas water sales through desal innovation and M&A

IT specialist Hitachi, Ltd. has a vast water business at home in Japan. Translating that expertise into overseas revenue has been slow going. GWI talked to water business guru Kunizo Sakai about the company’s latest plans for global expansion.

apanese information technology giant Hitachi, Ltd. has set itself ambitious near-term targets for growth in the water sector both at home and abroad. It is hoping to double its overseas turnover from $100 to $200 million in the next five or six years, although it has yet to make serious headway in projects not funded by Japanese official development assistance (ODA).
