US water sector boosted by strong 2000 results

US fourth quarter and end-of-year results started coming out in February and, so far, it seems that 2000 was a good year for the water industry with many companies reporting record earnings.

American Water Works (AWK) reported net income for 2000 of $157.4 million, a 6.4% increase on last year. This is based on total revenues for the year of $1.35 billion which reflects a 7% increase on the company’s 1999 revenues.
